EPFO Portal Update: The EPFO Unified Member Portal has resumed operations following a week-long upgrade. Find out what has changed and how things will work now.
EPFO Portal Update: The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) Unified Member Portal has been relaunched after being shut down for approximately a week for technical upgrades and database migration. While several changes have been implemented to enhance the user experience on the new portal, two significant features have been removed. These changes will impact millions of EPF account holders.
These features will no longer be available on the portal—
Following the update, EPFO has removed two key services from the Unified Member Portal. The facility for UAN activation is no longer available on the portal, and the option to generate a new UAN has also been removed. These services can now only be accessed via the UMANG app. Aadhaar-based face authentication has been made mandatory for this process.
The entire process will take place via UMANG
If an employee needs to activate their UAN or generate a new one, they must download the UMANG app. The process can be completed after verifying their identity through Aadhaar-based face authentication within the app. EPFO states that this move will enhance security and make services more transparent.
What features will be available on the portal?
Although two services have been removed, many other features on the Unified Member Portal remain unchanged. The facility to search for a UAN has been simplified. Additionally, services related to death claims and other member services will continue to be available on the portal.
Why was the change made?
EPFO has recently completed a major database upgrade and software migration for its systems. The organization states that the objective behind these changes is to improve the portal's functionality, strengthen security, and make digital services faster and more reliable in the future. Following the upgrade, the processing of certain services is currently being carried out in a phased manner to ensure data accuracy.
