Manchester City appear to have gained an early advantage over Premier League title rivals Arsenal even before the 2026/27 season kicks off, as they have reportedly reached an agreement to sign highly rated Leicester City youngster Jeremy Monga.

With new manager Enzo Maresca at the helm, City continue to strengthen their squad at the Etihad Stadium this summer. According to reports from The Athletic, the club has agreed to pay £12.5 million (£10 million upfront plus £2.5 million in potential add-ons) for the 16-year-old England youth international, who plays as a winger for the Under-19 side. The deal is said to have been finalised after Arsenal withdrew from negotiations, unwilling to meet the asking price.

Maresca is believed to have played a pivotal role in securing Monga’s signature, drawing upon his previous connection with the young talent during his managerial stint at Leicester City in the 2023/24 season. The Italian coach’s familiarity with Monga reportedly made a significant impact on the player’s decision to join the reigning champions.

Monga, born in Coventry, was also on the radar of major clubs such as Real Madrid and Chelsea, underlining his growing reputation in European football. Arsenal had identified him as a key target to strengthen the left flank of their attack for both the immediate and long-term future, but City’s decisive action appears to have sealed the move.

The promising winger has already gained first-team experience, featuring in the Premier League and making 30 appearances during Leicester’s Championship campaign last season. His blend of pace, technical ability, and versatility has made him one of the most sought-after young English prospects this summer.
