Electricity Subsidy: The Uttar Pradesh government will provide affordable electricity to domestic consumers in the BPL (Below Poverty Line) category by offering a subsidy that brings the rate down to ₹3 per unit for the first 100 units, thereby reducing the electricity bill.

BPL Electricity Scheme: If you are a resident of Uttar Pradesh, this news is crucial for you. The government has decided to provide affordable electricity to low-income and needy families in the state. Under this new initiative, domestic consumers in the BPL (Lifeline) category will receive the first 100 units of electricity at a significantly lower rate, which will help lower their monthly electricity bills.

Furthermore, the government will provide a per-unit subsidy under this scheme, ensuring that consumers pay only ₹3 per unit for up to 100 units of electricity. The objective of this new scheme is to provide relief to lakhs of needy families amidst rising costs and to alleviate the financial burden on their household budgets.

Is a separate application required?

If you meet all the criteria for this scheme, you do not need to submit a separate application. According to the terms, if you possess a BPL card, have a sanctioned electricity load of up to 1 kW, and your monthly consumption does not exceed 100 units, no application is necessary. The government-provided subsidy will be automatically adjusted in the electricity bill at the time of generation.

Additionally, the state government has decided to provide 4.43% relief on electricity bills for all categories of consumers starting in July 2026. This benefit will extend not only to domestic and commercial consumers but to all other electricity consumers as well.

Who is eligible for the scheme?

Domestic electricity consumers in the BPL (Lifeline) category.
Monthly electricity consumption of 100 units or less.
Sanctioned electricity connection load of up to 1 kW.
