Erling Haaland’s father, Alfie Haaland, has reignited speculation about the Manchester City striker’s future with his latest remarks linking him to Real Madrid.
Although the Norwegian forward remains tied to a long-term deal at the Etihad Stadium, Real Madrid continue to be closely connected with a possible move for one of football’s brightest stars.
In a conversation with DAZN ES, as cited by Fabrizio Romano, ahead of Norway’s knockout stage matches, the former Premier League midfielder made it clear that a future switch to the Santiago Bernabéu could not be ruled out.
While Alfie stressed that his son is content at Manchester City, he also admitted the undeniable allure of the reigning European champions.
“Real Madrid move? He’s very happy at Manchester City and has a long contract. We’re waiting for the new season… but ANYONE would want to play for Madrid,” he stated, before adding the familiar footballing phrase, “You never know what can happen in football.”
These comments have instantly rekindled speculation across Europe about Haaland’s long-term plans.
If Los Blancos were to make a serious approach, it could potentially lead to Haaland forming a fearsome attacking duo with Kylian Mbappe — a partnership that would terrify defences worldwide.
Despite the ongoing transfer rumours, Erling Haaland continues to focus on his performance on the pitch at the international level.
The Manchester City forward led Norway to their first-ever World Cup quarter-final after scoring a brilliant second-half brace to knock out five-time champions Brazil in a 2-1 victory.
After a relatively quiet first 80 minutes, Haaland rose to the occasion by converting a precise cross from substitute Antonio Schjelderup, outjumping Gabriel Magalhaes to beat Alisson Becker.
Moments later, he struck again with a powerful low drive from the edge of the box, stunning the Brazilian defence.
With those two goals, Haaland is now joint-top scorer at the 2026 World Cup with seven goals, sharing the spot with Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.
He has also extended his remarkable international scoring streak to 14 consecutive matches, bringing his total tally to an incredible 62 goals in just 54 appearances for Norway.
