California-based Porsche specialist Gunther Werks is set to compete for class honours at the Goodwood Festival of Speed hillclimb next week with its latest creation — a radical reinterpretation of the legendary Porsche 911 Slantnose that produces over 1000bhp.

The model, known as Project F-26 — named after the limited 26-unit production run — is a fighter jet-inspired recreation of the iconic 1970s Porsche 935 Slantnose, built upon the 993-generation 911 platform. Each car carries a price tag of approximately £1.2 million.

At its core lies a twin-turbocharged, air-cooled 4.0-litre Mezger flat-six engine developed in collaboration with a motorsport engineering firm. The powerplant delivers an astonishing 1067bhp and 750lb ft of torque, exceeding the output of the Ferrari 849 Testarossa, which serves as a useful benchmark for its immense capability.

The prodigious power is channelled through a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential to the rear wheels. Thanks to its lightweight carbon fibre body, the F-26 tips the scales at just 1225kg dry — even lighter than a Lotus Emira — promising blistering performance worthy of the world’s most exclusive supercars.

Gunther Werks aims to secure the quickest time in its class during the Sussex-based festival’s hillclimb shootout, with former Formula 1 and NASCAR driver Scott Speed handling driving duties.

The F-26 is expected to participate in the production road car category, where the current benchmark from the 2025 event is held by the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut, which completed the 1.16-mile course in just 47.14 seconds.

Meanwhile, the overall hillclimb record remains unbeaten since 2023, when Gloucestershire-based McMurtry Automotive’s 1000bhp electric fan car, the Spéirling, stormed up the course in just 39.08 seconds — a time that is widely considered unbeatable for the foreseeable future.
