France’s national football captain Kylian Mbappé (27) has issued a strong statement on X, condemning Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla’s offensive and discriminatory comments following Les Bleus’ victory over the Albirroja in the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Mbappé’s calmly converted penalty in the 70th minute proved decisive in a tense, hard-fought clash in Philadelphia.

However, tensions continued after the final whistle as Amarilla posted a series of shocking and aggressive messages on X. In her posts, she referred to Mbappé in derogatory terms, using language that drew widespread outrage. Two days after France’s triumph, Mbappé publicly responded, describing Amarilla as a disgraceful individual unworthy of her public role.

“You do not represent Paraguay, a nation that has shown passion and honour throughout the tournament,” Mbappé wrote. “Through your reckless and offensive behaviour, the world has already forgotten the remarkable journey and historic efforts of your players during this World Cup, instead seeing an irresponsible woman who presents the worst possible image of her country.”

Mbappé, who currently leads the World Cup’s goal charts alongside Norway’s Erling Haaland and Argentina’s Lionel Messi, concluded his message by pledging never to allow individuals like her to spread hatred and discrimination without being challenged.

The French Football Federation (Fédération Française de Football) has echoed Mbappé’s stance, condemning Amarilla’s comments as “utterly abhorrent and unacceptable.” The federation has also referred the matter to the public prosecutor’s office, signalling its intent to pursue legal action.
