On Monday, Bentley unveiled the first official image and confirmed the name of its forthcoming electric SUV, the Torcal. The team at Road & Track was offered an early, semi-exclusive preview of the luxury automaker’s debut EV, providing a closer look at its design philosophy and styling direction.

The Bentley Torcal is scheduled for its global debut on September 23. Until then, the brand is keeping most specifics under wraps. What has been confirmed is that the SUV measures roughly 16 feet in length, offers a driving range exceeding 300 miles, and, according to Bentley, represents its “most thoughtfully crafted Bentley ever: every decision, component, and feature has been designed around the customer.”

Starting with the teaser image, Bentley has revealed the Torcal’s rear section and taillights. The slim, rectangular lamps feature a crystal-inspired, quilted detailing that adds a sense of precision and craftsmanship. While the teaser doesn’t reveal the full picture, our preview suggests that the Torcal’s rear-quarter design blends cues from the Porsche Cayenne and the Range Rover Velar, both members of the extended Volkswagen Group family. Pronounced rear wheel arches lend it a muscular stance and a distinctly confident appearance.

The front fascia, however, is unmistakably Bentley. The Torcal adopts a more squared-off profile, sharper and more angular than its petrol-powered sibling, the Bentayga. The design features crisp lines, aggressive daytime running lights, and a front end that aligns with the styling language seen on the Flying Spur and Mulsanne sedans. Despite its electric drivetrain, the Torcal retains a traditional grille, ensuring it remains instantly recognizable as part of the Bentley lineage.

Inside, Bentley’s attention to craftsmanship continues to shine. The cabin is an intricate mix of premium materials — polished wood, brushed metal, fine fabrics, rich leathers, and even elements of glass crystal detailing. The interior balances tactile physical controls with advanced digital technology, creating a space that feels modern yet timeless. Though our time inside was brief, the initial impression was that of exceptional build quality and refinement.

Bentley has continued its tradition of naming models after natural landmarks, following the Bentayga, Bacalar, and Batur. The Torcal takes its name from El Torcal de Antequera, a striking natural reserve located in Andalusia, Spain, known for its dramatic limestone formations.

Further information and specifications about the Bentley Torcal are expected to be released as the official unveiling in London approaches this September.
