New Delhi: WhatsApp is continuously bringing new updates for its users. After Username, AI Chat and Privacy Tools, now the company is testing another feature, which is named Green Dot Status Indicator. With this feature you will be able to know whether any of your contacts is currently active on WhatsApp or not and for this you will not need to open the chat. Currently this feature has been released only for some Android Beta users. The company can roll it out for all Android and iPhone users in future.
In this new feature, a small green dot will appear along with the names of active users in the Chats list or any particular section of WhatsApp. This dot indicates whether the person was recently online on the app or is still active. Suppose you need immediate response for some important work. Earlier you had to open every chat and check Online or Last Seen. After the arrival of Green Dot, you will be able to see in the list itself who is available to answer. This will make it easier to guess before sending the message.
The biggest question is whether this will affect the privacy of users. According to reports, WhatsApp is preparing to bring this feature by linking it to the existing privacy settings. That means, if you have already hidden your Online Status or Last Seen, then even Green Dot will not be visible for you. The company has not said anything officially about this yet, but it is expected that the privacy controls will remain the same as before. If the user wishes, he will be able to manage this visibility.
At first glance it seems similar to Online Status, but there is a difference between the two. To see the online status, you had to open the chat of that person. Green Dot is a visual signal which will be visible directly in the chat list itself. Its advantage is that you will not have to open the chat and check again and again. At a glance you will know who is using WhatsApp at that time.
The biggest advantage of Green Dot can be time saving. If you need a quick response for office work, group project or any emergency, you will be able to immediately identify the active contact. This will make the chatting experience faster and easier. For the last few months, WhatsApp has been focusing on giving more control and convenience to the users. However, this feature is still in testing, so currently users will not be able to use it.
