Liverpool have shown a strong and genuine interest in securing the signature of Mexican World Cup prodigy Gilberto Mora, though they are set to face stiff competition from several of Europe’s top clubs, including Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The Premier League side are tracking Mora closely following his outstanding displays for Mexico at the 2026 World Cup. The young attacking midfielder from Club Tijuana impressed with his creativity and composure, helping his country reach the round of 16 before a thrilling 3-2 defeat against England.

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool have already initiated preliminary discussions to assess the conditions of a possible transfer and to gain a better understanding of the player’s own aspirations. The club’s interest has been described as both “developing” and “serious.”

At just 17 years old, Mora has already earned 12 international caps and registered one assist, showcasing impressive technical skills and maturity beyond his years on the global stage.

Mora’s appeal extends beyond his international performances. Domestically, he has made 53 senior appearances for Club Tijuana across all competitions, scoring 10 goals. His ability to play in multiple positions across midfield has further enhanced his value. Primarily used as a left or central attacking midfielder, he is also comfortable operating on either wing or in deeper central roles, offering tactical depth to any side he joins.

While Liverpool are keen to move swiftly, they face strong competition from Real Madrid, a club Mora is said to admire deeply. Reports indicate that the youngster considers a move to Madrid as a “dream opportunity.” He even exchanged shirts with Jude Bellingham after their encounter at the Azteca Stadium. Barcelona, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Arsenal are also monitoring his situation closely.

Manchester United, however, have reportedly withdrawn from the race after following the player for six months. The club is believed to have stepped back due to the expected high transfer fee and intense competition. Mora’s current valuation stands at over €40 million (£34 million/$46 million), reflecting his rapid rise in the football world.

Any immediate transfer remains complicated due to FIFA regulations, which prevent Mora from joining a foreign senior side until he turns 18 in October. To safeguard their prized talent, Club Tijuana recently extended his contract until 2029. With his World Cup campaign now complete, formal offers from European clubs are expected to arrive soon. For now, Mora remains focused on his domestic commitments, though a big-money move to Europe seems increasingly likely.
