Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni could not hold back his emotions and left a live television interview in tears after his team’s extraordinary World Cup comeback triumph over Egypt. The Albiceleste manager was visibly overwhelmed as he tried to absorb the magnitude of one of the tournament’s most unforgettable nights.

During his post-match chat with TyC Sports on the pitch, Scaloni struggled to find words. His side had just pulled off one of the most remarkable turnarounds in World Cup history, narrowly avoiding elimination that would have made them the first defending champions to exit at the round of 16 since 1986.

The visibly emotional coach wiped away tears as he spoke on air, before apologising and walking away. Shaking his head, Scaloni left the interview area to compose himself, later explaining: "I cried because I'm too emotional. But it’s true that this team will never abandon the Argentine people."

Argentina’s comeback was nothing short of breathtaking. Trailing 2-0 with just over 11 minutes remaining in regular time, Cristian Romero’s header ignited hope. Four minutes later, Lionel Messi levelled the score, and Enzo Fernandez completed the turnaround with a dramatic header in the 93rd minute to secure Argentina’s place in the quarter-finals.

Reflecting on the intense encounter, Scaloni spoke about his deep emotional connection to the national side. "I suffered as much as any fan, but that’s why I am a coach — to live and love through moments like these. That’s what I share with my coaching staff. For everyone involved in football, these emotions are indescribable," he said, smiling as he mentioned that his players teasingly call him "the crybaby" for his frequent emotional displays.

The emotional scenes extended beyond the manager. Captain Lionel Messi, who made history by becoming the first player to score in six consecutive World Cup knockout games, was also seen in tears after the final whistle. The victory ensures Argentina’s hopes of defending their world title remain alive as they prepare to face Switzerland in the quarter-finals.

In his final remarks, Scaloni praised his star forward: "I’m convinced he plays football for moments like this. For him to experience emotions like these at this point in his career is beyond words. It was an unforgettable moment."
