New Delhi: Meta has unveiled Muse Image, a new artificial intelligence-powered image generator developed by its Meta Superintelligence Labs, bringing advanced text-to-image creation and editing capabilities to Meta AI, Instagram and WhatsApp.
While the company is positioning the tool as a major step forward in AI creativity, its integration with Instagram has already sparked fresh debate over privacy and user consent.
Muse Image allows users to generate images simply by entering text prompts. The tool can also edit existing photos, apply artistic styles and create digital content such as invitations, social media posts, postcards and marketing visuals.
Meta says the model has been designed to understand detailed prompts and produce high-quality, personalized images. Users can also rely on preset prompts or create custom instructions for unique results.
The company plans to expand Muse Image to Facebook and Messenger in the coming months while introducing additional features for businesses and content creators.
The biggest talking point surrounding the launch is Muse Image’s use of Instagram data to personalize image generation.
According to Meta, the AI can use “social context” from Instagram to tailor results based on a user’s activity. One of its notable features allows users to tag public Instagram accounts and include those individuals in AI-generated images.
This capability has triggered concerns among privacy advocates and users, who argue that real people could be inserted into AI-generated content without their explicit consent. Critics say the feature raises important questions around identity protection, consent and the potential misuse of AI-generated images.
Meta says users who do not want their Instagram profiles to be used with certain AI features can adjust their privacy settings or switch their accounts to private, where applicable. However, images that have already been generated using the feature will not be removed retrospectively.
The company has also confirmed that the tool is free to use within certain limits. Heavy users may encounter daily usage caps unless they subscribe to Meta One or wait for the limits to reset.
Muse Image marks Meta&8217;s latest push to compete with leading AI image generators. The company says the model delivers competitive performance in text-to-image generation and is already working on Muse Video, an AI-powered video creation tool expected to launch later.
Despite the technological leap, the rollout has once again placed Meta at the center of the broader debate over AI ethics, data privacy and digital consent, with experts warning that increasingly realistic AI-generated content will require stronger safeguards to prevent misuse.
