Chelsea have officially confirmed the signing of highly regarded Portuguese winger Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP on a long-term deal that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2034. The 19-year-old joins the Premier League club following an impressive stint in Portugal, where he collected domestic titles and established himself as one of Europe’s most promising young players.
Record-breaking winger makes move to Stamford Bridge
In an official announcement, Chelsea revealed that Quenda has joined the London club from Sporting, committing his future for the next eight years. Reports indicate that the Blues have paid a transfer fee of €50 million to secure the youngster’s signature, marking the end of his successful tenure in Portugal.
During his time with Sporting, Quenda made 86 appearances in all competitions, scoring nine goals and providing 17 assists. He became the youngest player to score for Sporting during his debut campaign, featuring in 54 matches as the team completed a domestic Double. While Sporting lose a vital player, Chelsea gain a versatile talent capable of operating both as a winger and as a wing-back.
Silverware success and pride in joining Chelsea
Despite his young age, Quenda already brings with him an impressive collection of honours, including the Primeira Liga and Portuguese Cup titles with Sporting in 2025, as well as the Nations League trophy with Portugal. Reflecting on his move, the teenager expressed his happiness at joining Chelsea. “It feels great to be here,” Quenda said.
“Chelsea is a great team and I am excited to play here at Stamford Bridge,” he added. “The club has shown faith in players like me, and I am proud to be here, proud to be part of this club.”
Ambitions to work under Xabi Alonso
Beyond his domestic success, Quenda also holds the distinction of being the youngest Portuguese player to score in the Champions League. He was named in the Team of the Tournament at the 2025 Under-21 European Championship. Although he has yet to make his senior debut for Portugal, he has received multiple call-ups to the national squad.
The young winger is eager to continue developing under his new manager. “I am excited to work with my team-mates and the manager, Xabi Alonso. I’m a very hard-working person and I like to help my team. I want to be recognised as someone with the right mentality who gives everything for the team and helps the club win trophies.”
What’s next for Chelsea and Quenda?
Quenda will now join the Chelsea squad as they gear up for their upcoming pre-season fixtures. Supporters are keen to see how Xabi Alonso plans to utilise the teenager—either in an advanced attacking position or as a wing-back. With a reported €50 million transfer fee, expectations are already high, and fans could see him make his first appearance in Chelsea blue very soon.
