McLaren has continued to push the boundaries of its long-standing 720S platform, taking it to remarkable new heights. Nearly nine years after the original version of the car earned the Performance Car of the Year title, the model remains active in its evolved form as the 750S, following a limited-run detour with the 765LT. The British marque’s development efforts clearly aren’t over yet. Based on a pair of teasers released this week, McLaren appears to have at least one more high-performance machine planned within this lineage.

In the first teaser shared on Tuesday, McLaren showcased the 720S, 750S, and 765LT, concluding with the statement, “legacy demands more.” This slogan strongly hints at a successor to the 765LT—one that could take performance beyond the already potent 750S. However, the initial teaser offered few concrete details about what this new model might bring.

The company followed up with another teaser on Wednesday, offering a clearer look at what’s to come.

This second preview revealed a large rear wing, extensive use of exposed carbon fibre on the bodywork, and a quad-exit exhaust system similar to that of the 765LT. Most notably, McLaren confirmed the car’s name: 788HS. Based on the brand’s naming convention, the number likely corresponds to the car’s power output—788 PS (approximately 777 bhp)—while the “S” suggests a standard body configuration rather than the elongated “Longtail” design featured on the 765LT. The inclusion of the letter “H” adds intrigue. It could potentially denote a hybrid powertrain, drawing inspiration from earlier hybrid models like the P1 and the Artura, or it might signal that the 720S platform is evolving toward hypercar territory. Alternatively, it could represent something entirely new.

Whatever secrets the McLaren 788HS holds, answers are coming soon. The automaker has confirmed that the full reveal is scheduled for tomorrow morning, UK time, indicating that the official debut is just hours away.
