Manchester United transfer target Aurelien Tchouameni has reportedly made a firm decision about his future at Real Madrid by agreeing to a significant contract extension. The French international midfielder has chosen to commit his long-term future to the Spanish giants, despite firm interest from the Premier League club.

Madrid confirm Tchouameni’s contract renewal

As reported by RMC Sport, Tchouameni has reached a complete agreement to extend his Real Madrid contract until June 2031. This decision effectively ends ongoing transfer speculation linking him with a move to the Premier League, with Manchester United believed to be readying an offer exceeding €100 million. The 26-year-old has reaffirmed his desire to remain an integral part of Los Blancos, convinced of his value to the club’s future plans.

Mourinho’s role in the extension

Despite earlier uncertainty surrounding his future due to Madrid’s inconsistent domestic form and reported tension with Federico Valverde, the arrival of new head coach Jose Mourinho proved decisive, according to Marca. The Portuguese manager’s influence was key in persuading Tchouameni to stay and continue fulfilling his role as a central figure in Madrid’s midfield. Mourinho now holds full control over upcoming squad decisions and was instrumental in the club’s choice to offer the midfielder a long-term renewal.

Manchester United miss their top target

United’s inability to secure Tchouameni is partly attributed to internal delays in finalising financial arrangements for previous transfer pursuits. After missing out on Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham Hotspur due to performance-related clauses, the Red Devils once again find themselves empty-handed. Real Madrid opted to retain their prized midfielder rather than approve a sale, prompting United to turn their attention elsewhere, with Andrey Santos expected to arrive from Chelsea.

Focus turns to the World Cup with France

Tchouameni’s immediate focus now shifts to international duty with the France national team at the World Cup. Having recovered from a muscle injury that sidelined him during the round-of-16 match against Paraguay, he has returned to full training at Bentley ahead of a crucial encounter with Morocco. His return strengthens Didier Deschamps’ squad as they prepare for a demanding knockout stage test in the tournament.
