Rajpal Yadav has suffered a big setback in the 15 year old check bounce case. Delhi High Court has upheld Rajpal's six-month sentence and ordered his detention.

The legal troubles of Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav have increased once again. Delhi High Court, while upholding the lower court's decision in the 15-year-old check bounce case, has sentenced the actor to 6 months in jail. The court has also ordered to take Rajpal Yadav into custody again. The case pertains to a loan of Rs 5 crore taken in 2010 for his film 'Aata Pata Lapata'. After the failure of the film, this controversy which started due to non-payment of loan and bounced cheque, has now once again come into the headlines.

Rajpal Yadav Check Bounce Case: What decision did the High Court give?

Delhi High Court has upheld the conviction of Rajpal Yadav in the check bounce case. The court upheld the 6-month jail sentence of the actor and ordered him to be taken into custody. Besides, instructions have also been given to pay Rs 1.05 crore in each case. His wife Radha Rajpal Yadav has also been fined more than Rs 5 lakh in each case.

Rajpal Yadav Loan Case: How did the whole controversy start with a loan of Rs 5 crore?

This case dates back to the year 2010, when Rajpal Yadav had taken a loan of Rs 5 crore from M/s Murali Projects Private Limited for the production of his ambitious film 'Aata Pata Lapata'. However, the film flopped badly at the box office and the actor could not repay the loan on time. After this the check bounce case reached the court and the legal battle started.

Rajpal Yadav Court Case Timeline: What happened in the last 15 years?

In April 2018, the Magistrate Court had convicted Rajpal Yadav and his wife in the check dishonor case and sentenced them to 6 months imprisonment. In 2019, the Sessions Court also upheld this decision. After this the actor approached Delhi High Court. In June 2024, the High Court had given interim relief and stayed the sentence and asked to make efforts to repay the outstanding amount. But the court held that the actor could not fulfill the repeated payment promises.

Rajpal Yadav Financial Crisis: Why did the court order his detention again?

The High Court had earlier also directed Rajpal Yadav to surrender as he did not follow the earlier orders of the court. Citing financial constraints, the actor had said in the court that he did not have enough money to repay the dues and he was left with no other option. After this he was sent to Tihar Jail, from where he got bail in February. Now after the latest decision, the court has again ordered to take him into custody.

Many Bollywood stars supported Rajpal Yadav during the legal proceedings. According to reports, Sonu Sood, Ajay Devgan, Salman Khan and Gurmeet Choudhary supported him through financial help or public appeal.
