Manchester City have officially signed promising young goalkeeper Pierce Charles from Sheffield Wednesday, with the Northern Ireland international set to spend the upcoming 2026/27 season on loan at Queens Park Rangers.

The 20-year-old shot-stopper has agreed to a five-year deal with the Premier League champions after City finalised a transfer valued at approximately £3 million, including potential add-ons. This move marks a return to familiar surroundings for Charles, who began his youth career at City before departing for Sheffield Wednesday in 2021.

During his time at Hillsborough, Charles quickly developed into one of the Championship’s brightest young goalkeeping prospects. He amassed 36 senior appearances for the Owls, earning widespread praise for his composure, agility, and sharp reflexes between the posts, even as the club endured a challenging period in the league.

Instead of serving as a reserve option at the Etihad Stadium, the young keeper will head to QPR on a season-long loan, where he is expected to gain valuable first-team experience. The London club had previously shown interest in securing his signature directly from Sheffield Wednesday, but City’s move accelerated the process and ensured his development remains aligned with their long-term vision.

This signing reflects Manchester City’s continued commitment to investing in emerging talents with high potential. The club views Charles as a key prospect for the future and part of their ongoing strategy to build depth and sustain success across multiple competitions.
