Manchester United have long been known for nurturing promising youngsters and easing them into the senior setup. It now appears that another exceptional talent is emerging from their academy, ready to take the next step towards first-team football.

JJ Gabriel earned widespread acclaim for his outstanding performances with United’s Under-18 side last season. The 15-year-old attacking midfielder, who can also operate across the forward line, impressed so much that he was invited to train with the senior squad on multiple occasions during the previous campaign.

Gabriel became a mainstay for the Under-18s, ending the season with an impressive tally of 26 goals and four assists in 29 appearances. His consistent displays earned him the Under-18 Premier League Player of the Season title, as well as the prestigious Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award.

The youngster’s rise has not gone unnoticed, with several top clubs across Europe reportedly monitoring his progress. However, Manchester United seem intent on doing everything in their power to ensure that Gabriel’s future remains at Old Trafford.

According to The Sun, the Premier League giants are fully committed to keeping JJ Gabriel at the club. Recently, Wayne Rooney’s son, Kai Rooney, was among 15 academy players who received scholarships during the scholars’ night at Old Trafford. Gabriel, however, was unable to receive a scholarship at that time due to being under the legal age limit.

Despite this, the report adds that Gabriel remains firmly part of United’s long-term plans. It states: “Although he missed out on the formal scholarship ceremony, Gabriel remains securely tied to United under an existing schoolboy agreement that runs until 2027.”

It further explains that the next major step in his United career will come in the summer of 2027, when he becomes eligible to sign a full academy scholarship and his first professional contract upon turning 17 in October 2027.

The report also mentions that Gabriel holds an Irish passport through his father, a factor that could prove advantageous under post-Brexit transfer rules. It continues: “Gabriel qualifies for the specific FIFA exemption that allows the transfer of minors aged 16 to 18 within the European Union.”

Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich are said to be among the elite European clubs keeping a close eye on Gabriel’s development. Nevertheless, United are reportedly crafting a plan to secure his long-term future at the Theatre of Dreams.

The report adds: “While he cannot sign a professional deal until 2027, United are expected to seek a ‘scholarship-into-pro’ commitment once he turns 16, effectively ensuring his continued stay.”

Additionally, The Sun suggests that Gabriel might feature in pre-season activities with the senior team. It concludes: “Club insiders have emphasised that United are determined to shield him from excessive media attention and potential burnout.”
