Spain booked their place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final after a 2-0 victory over France in Tuesday's semi-final at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, United States.

La Roja took the lead in the 22nd minute when Mikel Oyarzabal converted a penalty. France were forced into an early change seven minutes later after William Saliba picked up an injury, with Maxence Lacroix coming on as his replacement. Spain doubled their advantage in the 58th minute through Pedro Porro, sealing a memorable win. The match was officiated by Iván Barton of El Salvador.

France, led by Kylian Mbappé, were unable to break down Spain's defense despite several attacking efforts. Although Mbappé remains the leading scorer in the Golden Boot race, Les Bleus finished the tournament without finding the net in the semi-final.

Spain will now face the winner of Wednesday's second semi-final between Argentina and England, with a place in World Cup history at stake.

Tuesday's result added another chapter to one of international football's oldest rivalries. It was the 39th meeting between Spain and France, whose first encounter dates back to 1922. Despite their long history, this was only the second time the two nations had faced each other at a FIFA World Cup. Their previous World Cup meeting came in 2006, when France won 3-1 in the Round of 16. France still hold the overall advantage in the head-to-head record with 18 victories, while Spain have now recorded 14 wins, with seven matches ending in draws.

Spain's latest triumph continues an impressive run on the international stage. It also follows their dramatic 5-4 victory over France in the 2025 UEFA Nations League semi-final, further strengthening La Roja's recent dominance in this rivalry. One more victory would see Spain crowned FIFA World Cup champions.
