Manchester United’s efforts to strengthen their midfield appear far from complete, despite significant investment in that area over the summer. Under Michael Carrick, the team now possesses improved technical depth, yet the club continues to assess the possibility of signing a top-tier ball-carrying midfielder before the transfer window shuts.

The latest player being discussed brings Champions League experience, athleticism, and the tactical flexibility to operate as either a No.6 or No.8. However, the main challenge for United lies not just in dealing with Real Madrid’s stance but in convincing the player himself, who remains committed to staying at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Manchester United are reportedly preparing an ambitious approach for the French international, though the midfielder currently prefers to continue his development with Real Madrid rather than consider a move to the Premier League.

The Red Devils’ interest aligns with their broader recruitment strategy. According to reports, United have already spent £82 million on Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans but are still open to adding another central midfielder to further enhance competition.

Eduardo Camavinga, Roma’s Manu Koné, and Bournemouth’s Alex Scott are among the names being monitored. However, potential transfer fees ranging between £60 million and £80 million could make another high-profile deal difficult to finalise.

Camavinga, in particular, would bring unique qualities to the United squad. His ability to win back possession, evade opposition pressure, and carry the ball through midfield would provide Carrick with greater control in high-intensity matches.

Despite United’s interest, the midfielder is not currently inclined towards a Premier League switch. Real Madrid remain under no pressure to sell, and with Camavinga under contract until June 2029, the Spanish giants hold a strong negotiating position should United make a formal approach.

While United’s ambition to target elite talent is commendable, chasing a player who appears determined to stay in Madrid could prove counterproductive. Although Camavinga would be a superb signing, convincing him to join is as crucial as reaching an agreement over the transfer fee.

Following the arrivals of Santos and Tielemans, United’s midfield already looks stronger and more balanced. Any additional signing must be fully committed to Carrick’s long-term project rather than viewing Old Trafford as a backup option.

The prudent strategy for United would be to keep Camavinga on their shortlist while advancing negotiations for more realistic targets. Should the Frenchman’s stance change later in the window, United would then be ready to act swiftly. Until then, maintaining discipline in the transfer market will be more valuable than pursuing a deal that currently seems unlikely.
