Arsenal have reportedly sealed a full agreement with Club Brugge for the signing of Greek international Christos Tzolis, in a move worth approximately £34 million. The deal will see the talented winger make his return to the Premier League as manager Mikel Arteta looks to enhance his attacking options ahead of the new season.
Arsenal target replacement for Trossard
As per reports from The Athletic, Arsenal have agreed a £34m fee with Club Brugge to bring in 24-year-old Tzolis. The north London side are now finalising the final details of the transfer as Arteta continues to reinforce his forward line following recent departures.
This signing comes soon after Leandro Trossard’s £17m transfer to Turkish club Besiktas earlier in the week. However, Arsenal’s interest in Tzolis is understood to be an independent move, separate from their pursuit of other targets such as Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers. Arteta and his coaching team reportedly view Tzolis as a distinctive tactical addition who fits their long-term attacking strategy.
Shift in focus after Juventus setback
Arsenal’s effort to strengthen their attacking ranks this summer has seen them evaluate several high-profile players across Europe. Before turning their focus to Tzolis, the club had shown serious interest in Juventus youngster Kenan Yildiz. However, after the Italian giants made it clear that the Turkish international was not available for sale, Arsenal swiftly turned their attention to alternative targets.
On June 12, The Athletic reported that Arsenal were actively exploring a deal for Tzolis, with sources indicating that a fee in the region of €40m could secure his services. Crystal Palace had previously made a bid for the winger last summer but were rebuffed by Brugge. This time, the Gunners have successfully navigated negotiations to reach an agreement and bring him to the Emirates Stadium.
Return to English football
The move marks a return to England for Tzolis, who previously spent three years with Norwich City. During his stint at Carrow Road, he made 30 appearances across all competitions, including 14 in the Premier League. Though his spell in Norfolk was largely developmental, it played a key role in his growth as a player, even as he experienced limited first-team opportunities leading to various loan spells.
Before his permanent transfer to Club Brugge in 2024, Tzolis enjoyed productive loan stints with Twente in the Netherlands and Fortuna Düsseldorf in Germany. It was during his time in Belgium, however, that he truly flourished, demonstrating marked maturity and overcoming the adaptation challenges that had earlier affected his performance in the demanding English game.
Outstanding record in Belgium
Tzolis delivered a standout campaign with Club Brugge last season, notching up an impressive 22 goals and 29 assists in 52 appearances across all competitions. His remarkable form played a crucial role in helping Brugge clinch their 20th Belgian Pro League title. The winger’s dual ability to create and score made him one of the most sought-after talents in Belgian football, even though he had recently extended his contract with the club until 2029.
On the international stage, Tzolis has also been a consistent performer for Greece, earning 34 caps and scoring nine goals. His pace, creativity, and finishing have made him a key figure for the national team. Arteta will be hoping that Tzolis can bring the same level of sharpness and productivity to the Premier League as Arsenal aim to defend their domestic crown in the upcoming season.
