Manchester United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, has reaffirmed the club’s commitment to competing strongly across all competitions. The Red Devils are gearing up for what promises to be an exciting new season following a remarkable spell under manager Michael Carrick during the previous campaign.

The Englishman took over in January and guided United to 12 wins and just two losses in 17 Premier League fixtures, propelling the team to a third-place finish. This achievement secured a return to the Champions League, and the club is now focused on further bolstering its squad during the summer transfer window.

The Premier League powerhouse has already completed the signings of Andrey Santos, Karl Darlow, and Youri Tielemans, with more arrivals expected before the window closes. Wilcox has once again emphasised the club’s position on continuing to strengthen the team.

Writing in Manchester United’s official Yearbook, Wilcox expressed satisfaction with the progress made over the past year. He stated, “Last season, I wrote about our responsibility to help bring this great club back to the top.”

“A year later, we can take pride in the progress made towards our long-term objectives. We have taken significant steps forward and can be confident that the structures and processes now in place will help us achieve consistent and sustainable success in the years ahead.”

He further praised Carrick’s influence, saying, “Michael has done an outstanding job and fully deserves to continue as head coach of our men’s team. The results speak for themselves — United have recorded their highest Premier League points total since his return. Everyone at the club values Michael’s leadership and his complete alignment with our core values.”

Wilcox went on to stress that the club’s ambition remains unwavering: “The hard work continues behind the scenes to prepare the first-team squad for the next season. We can all be proud of the winning mentality that is being cultivated at Carrington as we continue to build a talented and determined group ready to compete across all four competitions.”

He also reflected on the progress of the Women’s team and the Academy, noting, “Seeing our women’s team reach the Champions League quarter-finals in their debut European campaign was one of the standout moments of the season. Competing on multiple fronts has provided valuable lessons that will benefit the club as we continue to support and develop our women’s side.”

“We are also making excellent strides with the Academy. There is tremendous work being done across the youth levels, laying the foundation for our future success. From the Under-18s and Under-21s perspectives, achieving four first-team debuts and reaching several national finals, including the FA Youth Cup, made it a campaign that all Academy staff can be proud of.”

Wilcox concluded by highlighting the sense of excitement surrounding the club: “You can feel the anticipation building for another thrilling season. I hope you are all looking forward to the return of those special European nights at Old Trafford.”

“On behalf of everyone at the club, I want to sincerely thank you for your unwavering support — it never goes unnoticed or unappreciated. Our ambitions remain sky-high, and our enduring desire for every Manchester United side to compete for the biggest trophies continues to push us forward.”

Manchester United will begin their pre-season preparations with a friendly against Wrexham in Helsinki on Saturday, 18 July. Supporters will be eager to see new signing Santos in action, while INEOS will be expected to accelerate their recruitment efforts to ensure Carrick has a fully competitive squad ready for the upcoming season.
