We often believe that life and death are the way of the world. The person who is born will definitely die one day or the other. According to Hindu religion, the person who worships Lord Shiva with a true heart is protected by Lord Shiva himself. There is a religious belief that Lord Shiva is not pleased only by worship, but the devotee who remembers him with a true heart and worships him as his own, bestows special blessings on him and removes all his troubles. According to the legend, once Lord Shiva had burnt Kaal himself to protect his beloved devotee King Shwetaketu.
According to the legend, Lord Shiva’s son Kartikeya had narrated this story to the saints. According to this legend, King Shwetaketu was extremely kind and brave. He always worked for the welfare of the people of his kingdom. He had adopted the path of religion and devotion to Shiva throughout his life, due to which he received the blessings of Lord Shiva and his death was also averted. According to the legend, King Shwetaketu was always engrossed in the devotion of Lord Shiva. Then the time of his death came. Chitragupta told Yamraj that the life span of King Shwetaketu had ended. Then Yamraj ordered his messengers to take away Shwetaketu’s life.
When the Yamdoots reached Shwetaketu, he was engrossed in meditation in front of the Shivalinga in the temple. Seeing this, Yamdoot waited outside the temple for a long time. When they could not take his life for a long time, Yamraj became angry. In anger, Yamraj himself reached to take the life of Shwetaketu. He saw that Shwetaketu was completely engrossed in Shiva devotion, but he did not stop even for a moment. They started trying to take his life in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple itself. Then Lord Shiva opened his third eye. Yamraj was burnt to ashes by the brightness of his third eye. After Yamraj was burnt to ashes, Shwetaketu lost his concentration.
When Shwetaketu came to know that Lord Shiva had incinerated Yamraj to protect him, he made a humble request to Lord Shiva that it is only due to the fear of Yamraj that people avoid doing bad deeds. Also, due to their fear, people also do good deeds. Therefore, give them life.
Hearing the prayer of Shwetaketu, Lord Shiva gave life to Yamraj. After coming alive again, Yamraj said that the person who worships Lord Shiva with a true heart, wears a Rudraksh rosary around his neck and chants Shiva mantras with devotion, never has the fear of untimely death.
