The ECB has secured multi-edition hosting rights for the 2027, 2029, and 2031 WTC finals, while the right to select particular venues has been given to the host board. The selection of the Oval brings back the prestigious event at a ground which has a rich history of dramatic title decisions. The venue previously hosted the 2023 WTC Final, where Australia Had lifted the ICC Test mace by conquering India.
The 2027 final holds additional historical significance. Highlighting the occasion, ICC General Manager of Programs and Operations, Gaurav Saxenasaid that the match would act as the centerpiece event honoring 150 years of Test cricket. ECB’s Managing Director of Competitions and Major Events, blue snowballechoing this sentiment expressed excitement following the success of the 2023 finals, which was attended by both fans and international broadcasters.
In its three completed cycles, the WTC has produced three different champions: new zealand In 2021, Australia in 2023, and South Africa In 2025. The 2027 edition at the Oval promises another high-stakes battle between the world’s top two Test teams.
Less than a year away from the London finals, and the qualification table between all nine competing nations is heating up.
