LeBron James is switching NBA teams as he announces signing with Philadelphia 76ers, leaving the Lakers.

On Friday, July 24, the American football player took to X, explaining his decision to stay in the league in a series of social media posts.

“I thought I was done when the season ended. I wasn’t ready to announce it, and I knew I needed some time to really decide, but I was pretty sure I played my last game,” James started.

The basketball icon said he had been truthful when he previously admitted he needed to reflect on whether he still loved the game, adding that he realised he “still truly love this game” and had “more to give.”

James described the past few weeks as a rare opportunity to step away from basketball and spend time with loved ones while contemplating his future.

“This is my last decision. I’m not going for money. I’m not going for family. What am I really playing for at this point?” he added.

The NBA legend said his desire to compete remained as strong as ever, stressing that he still wanted “to sacrifice,” “to work,” “to grind” and “to compete” for another championship.

Explaining his decision to join the Philadelphia 76ers, James said he believed he could help turn the franchise into a title contender and was “so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time.” He concluded by thanking Los Angeles for its support, while expressing his enduring love for Miami and calling Northeast Ohio “always home.”
