Material

- Beetroot – 1 medium size (boiled and grated)
- Boiled and mashed potatoes – ½ cup
- Cheese-½ cup grated
- Green chillies – 2–3 finely chopped
- Ginger-1 tsp (grated)
- Green Coriander – 2 tbsp (finely chopped)
- Cumin powder-½ tsp
- Red chilli powder-½ tsp
- Garam masala-½ tsp
- Salt – as per taste
- Cornflour or breadcrumbs – 2–3 tbsp
- Oil for frying (or light oil for air fryer/oven)
Method
- 1-Wash the poha and let it soften for 5 minutes and drain off the excess water.
- 2-In a large vessel, add poha, grated beetroot, mashed potatoes, cheese, green chillies, ginger, green coriander and all the spices.
- 3-Mix the mixture well. If the mixture seems loose then add cornflour or breadcrumbs to it and bind it.
- 4-Now make small balls. Heat oil in a pan and fry the balls on medium flame until they become golden and crisp.
- 5-If you want a healthy option, bake them at 180°C for 15–20 minutes or cook them in an air fryer at 180°C for 10–12 minutes. Turn once in the middle. Serve hot balls with green chutney, tomato sauce or curd dip.
Be careful while making
1-Do not soak the poha in water for too long, otherwise the mixture will become soggy.
2-Squeeze out the excess water from the beetroot thoroughly.
3-If the mixture becomes too soft, add a little more breadcrumbs or cornflour.
4- Always fry the balls on medium flame, so that they are crunchy from outside and cooked well from inside.
5- To make them more nutritious, bake or air fry them instead of deep frying them.
This colorful and delicious snack is perfect to serve with evening tea and is sure to be a hit with your guests.
