India’s weightlifter Chanambam Rishikant Singh has performed brilliantly and won the silver medal in the men’s 60 kg category at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026. This young player from Manipur not only added another medal to India’s bag, but also created a new Commonwealth Games record by lifting 121 kg in snatch. Although Malaysia’s Mohammad Anik Kasdan won in the clean and jerk, Rishikant’s performance became the talking point of the entire tournament.
This success of 28 year old Rishikant Singh did not happen overnight. Behind this are years of hard work, disciplined training and the determination to continuously perform better. This silver medal won in Glasgow is considered to be one of the biggest achievements of his career so far and it has also given a new identity to Indian weightlifting.
Born on 5 July 1998 in Imphal West, Manipur, Rishikant Singh started weightlifting from the National Sports Academy located in Khuman Lampak. Rishikant, who grew up in a sports environment since childhood, caught everyone’s attention with his talent at an early age. After this, he got the opportunity to take training at Army Sports Institute of Pune, Netaji Subhash National Sports Institute (NIS) of Patiala and National Sports Academy of Bulgaria Vasil Levski. Currently, Rishikant is practicing in Modinagar, Uttar Pradesh and plays for the Indian Army in national and international competitions.
Rishikant Singh’s success was not achieved in a day. He has proved himself with his strong performances year after year.
