According to these rules, now data to telecom network will not be stored or transferred outside India. Under the new rules, mobile tower companies, companies providing telecom infrastructure, satellite gateway operators and cloud network service providers will have to store their entire telecom data in India. This means that network- records, system logs and other technical information can neither be kept abroad nor sent to servers in any other country.
The government says that keeping the data within the country will improve the security of sensitive information and it will be easier to take action in case of any emergency.
Under the new system, the government will have the right to investigate or audit the network and data systems of any company if needed. If any issue to national security comes to light, the concerned agencies can take action even without prior notice. Its objective is to further strengthen the security system and ensure proper compliance with the rules.

Since it will now be mandatory to keep the entire telecom data in India, the need for setting up new data centers in the country may increase. Companies will have to complete all the necessary changes within the stipulated time and keep Indian data safe on local servers.
