India’s young weightlifter Dnyaneshwari Yadav has performed brilliantly in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026, winning the silver medal in the women’s 53 kg weight category. With this achievement he gave India its third silver medal of the competition. This performance of Gyaneshwari was also special because she broke the Commonwealth Games record twice during the competition, although both times Nigeria’s Onome Omolola performed better than her and took the record.
Dnyaneshwari Yadav created a new Games record by lifting 88 kg in the third attempt in snatch. After this, he also made another record in clean and jerk by lifting 111 kg weight. Onome Omolola broke both records by lifting 93 kg in snatch and 113 kg in clean and jerk and won the gold medal. Canada’s Rebecca Groulx won the bronze medal.
Gyaneshwari Yadav was born in the year 2003 in Bhodiya village of Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh. He started showing his talent in weightlifting at an early age. After consistently excellent performances in domestic competitions, he got a place in the Indian team. Along with sports, he is also working as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in Chhattisgarh Police. While striking a balance between sports and job, she has made her mark among the top female weightlifters of the country.
The biggest turning point in Dnyaneshwari Yadav’s career was the Asian Weightlifting Championship 2026. In this tournament played in Gandhinagar, he performed brilliantly and lifted 88 kg in snatch and 106 kg in clean and jerk. In this way he gave his best performance till date by lifting a total weight of 194 kg.
On the basis of this excellent performance, Dnyaneshwari won silver medal in snatch and overall bronze medal. The special thing was that with the 88 kg lifted in snatch, he also created a new national record of India. Earlier, in the year 2025, he had also been given Chhattisgarh’s highest sports honor ‘Gundadhur Samman’ for his excellent sports performance.
