Romelu Lukaku is not expected to feature prominently in the Napoli plans under new head coach Massimiliano Allegri, and the latest reports suggest that MLS club Atlanta United are keen on signing Belgium’s all-time top goalscorer.

Lukaku has entered the final year of his contract with Napoli after arriving on a three-year deal from Chelsea in the summer of 2024. He then played an important part in Napoli’s run to the 2024-25 Scudetto, but managed only five league appearances during an injury-hit 2025-26 campaign.

The 33-year-old is no longer certain of a starting place at the Stadio Maradona, especially with Rasmus Hojlund now in the picture, and his agent recently made it clear that the Belgian “isn’t the kind of person who stays where he’s not wanted.”

Now, according to reports from Belgian expert Sacha Tavolieri, MLS side Atlanta United are “pushing hard” in their bid to sign Lukaku from Napoli this summer.

Discussions between the parties involved are said to have already started, and Lukaku has reportedly given the green light to a move away from Napoli this summer, although at this point negotiations are still at an “early stage”.

Other reports indicate that Napoli are prepared to consider offers in the region of €10m for Lukaku this summer.

The bigger concern for interested clubs is the player’s salary, which is reportedly around €8m per season in gross wages.
