Delhi-NCR witnessed a major disruption after intense monsoon rainfall lashed the region, leaving several roads waterlogged and triggering long traffic jams. The heavy showers affected normal life across Delhi and adjoining areas, with flooded stretches and underpasses creating difficulties for commuters.
Several parts of the National Capital Region reported severe waterlogging following hours of rainfall. Traffic movement slowed considerably on major roads, while commuters faced long delays.
The situation was particularly difficult on stretches where rainwater accumulated rapidly, forcing vehicles to move through flooded roads. Authorities and traffic agencies issued advisories asking commuters to check road conditions before beginning their journey.
Water accumulation was also reported at low-lying locations and underpasses. The India Meteorological Department’s Delhi forecast specifically warned of water accumulation on roads and in low-lying areas, along with an increased risk of traffic disruption and vehicle accidents.
The situation in parts of Gurugram was also severe, with flooded roads contributing to major traffic problems and disrupting daily office commutes.
The weather situation became serious enough for the IMD to issue a red alert for the south-eastern part of Delhi on Friday morning, while orange and yellow alerts were issued for other parts of the capital.
The warning came amid continued moderate to heavy rainfall across the city. The weather department has also forecast further rain activity, meaning commuters may continue to face waterlogging and traffic- problems.
According to the latest Delhi weather bulletin, rainfall activity is expected to continue, with the possibility of moderate spells and isolated heavy to very heavy rain. Residents have been advised to remain alert and check traffic conditions before travelling.
