New Delhi: The monsoon is about to pick up speed once again. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy rain for many parts of the country on Saturday, August 8. Heavy rain is expected in many states, from north to south and east to west.
Rain will occur at many places in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. The weather will also deteriorate in the plains. Heavy rains and waterlogging are possible in Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi. Monsoon conditions will remain active in Uttar Pradesh for the next 4-5 days.
According to the IMD, heavy rains will occur in eastern Uttar Pradesh on August 8th. Western Uttar Pradesh on August 7th, while isolated heavy rains are possible in both eastern and western Uttar Pradesh on August 9th and 10th. Heavy rains are again forecast in western districts on August 11th. Monsoon flows will remain strong in southern districts. There is a risk of flooding in low-lying areas and rising river and stream levels.
Monsoon will remain active in Rajasthan from August 8th to 10th. Rainfall will increase in the Bharatpur, Jaipur, Kota, Ajmer, and Udaipur divisions of eastern Rajasthan. Isolated heavy rain is possible in Kota and Udaipur on August 8th and 9th. Jodhpur and Bikaner in western Rajasthan are also expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall from August 8th to 10th. The Meteorological Department has advised people to remain vigilant.
A low pressure area is expected to form over the West Bengal coast and the Bay of Bengal by Saturday morning. This will bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to South Bengal. Kolkata, Jhargram, North 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly, and Bankura will experience heavy rainfall.
There is an alert for very heavy rain in East and West Medinipur, and South 24 Parganas. In North Bengal, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar are expected to experience heavy rain until Sunday. Winds of up to 45 kmph are expected in coastal areas.
The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea. Rainfall will also occur at various places in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Sikkim on Saturday. Rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms will occur in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
Rain will occur in Gujarat, Goa, Marathwada, Vidarbha, and western Madhya Pradesh. Heavy rain is also possible in isolated pockets of eastern Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Further south, heavy rain will occur in Kerala, coastal Karnataka, and Lakshadweep.
Heavy rain is forecast for coastal and southern interior Karnataka. Rainfall and strong winds are possible in Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh. The IMD has urged everyone to avoid unnecessary travel in areas affected by heavy rainfall and to remain vigilant in low-lying areas.
