Manchester City are on the verge of completing another signing, with Geronimo Rulli poised to join the Cityzens.

The Premier League champions have acted quickly in the transfer market to strengthen their goalkeeping options, agreeing a deal with Olympique de Marseille to bring the experienced Argentina international back to England before the new season.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Geronimo Rulli is due to undergo his medical tests at Manchester City on Monday after the two clubs reached a full agreement today.

Fabrizio Romano said: “Geronimo Rulli will undergo medical at Manchester City on Monday after deal agreed today with OM. Club statement to follow next. #MCFC”

The transfer fee is understood to be in the region of €3.5 million to €3.8 million, while the 34-year-old World Cup winner has agreed a two-year contract running until 2028 at the Etihad Stadium.

After the departure of James Trafford, new manager Enzo Maresca made it a priority to bring in a dependable and experienced goalkeeper to add proven cover and competition within the squad.

The move represents a notable return to Manchester City for Rulli, who first joined the club in July 2016 from Deportivo Maldonado.

During his initial spell in North West England, he was immediately sent back on loan to Real Sociedad before later completing a permanent move to Spain, without making an official competitive appearance for the Premier League club.

Since then, the Argentine has built an impressive career in Europe, shining for Villarreal, where he saved the decisive penalty in the 2021 Europa League final shootout against Manchester United, and later turning out for Ajax and Marseille.

Rulli’s arrival continues a busy transfer window for Manchester City as the club reshapes its squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.

City have already completed the headline £116 million signing of midfielder Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest as the centrepiece of their summer recruitment.

The club have also moved for leading young talent, signing winger Jeremy Monga from Leicester City for £10 million, along with young goalkeeper Pierce Charles from Sheffield Wednesday.

With Rulli expected to complete his medical on Monday, City are continuing to fine-tune their squad depth for another push at the title.
