The UGC NET June 2026 exam was conducted between June 22 and June 30. Furthermore, a re-examination was held on July 5 for certain candidates. Since the conclusion of the exams, candidates have been awaiting the provisional answer key and the results.

UGC NET Answer Key to be Released This Week

According to the NTA’s update, the provisional answer key for the UGC NET June 2026 exam will be released this week. Along with the answer key, candidates’ response sheets and their attempted question papers will also be made available. Candidates will be able to view these on the official NTA website. Once the answer key is released, candidates can compare their recorded responses with the official answers, helping them estimate their probable exam scores.

Opportunity to Raise Objections Against Incorrect Answers

After the provisional answer key is released, the NTA will provide candidates with the opportunity to raise objections if they find any errors in the answers. Candidates will be required to provide valid reasons and evidence to support their claims. A non-refundable fee of ₹200 will be charged for challenging each answer. Only objections submitted via the prescribed mode and within the stipulated timeframe will be considered; objections sent without valid reasons or supporting evidence, as well as challenges filed after the deadline, will not be accepted. The objections received from candidates will be scrutinized by subject matter experts. Subsequently, the final answer key will be prepared after incorporating necessary changes.

Update Arrives After a Long Wait

The UGC NET June 2026 examination concluded at the end of June, but the wait for candidates dragged on as the provisional answer key was not released. Many candidates had been continuously seeking updates from the NTA. The delay in the answer key has impacted the further studies and academic plans of candidates preparing for JRF, Assistant Professor eligibility, or PhD admissions based on their UGC NET scores. Compared to previous UGC NET sessions, the release of the answer key took longer this time, prompting candidates to try and obtain information through the NTA helpdesk and other channels; however, they were unable to get clear information regarding the release date.

Why is the UGC NET Score Important?

The UGC NET examination determines a candidate’s eligibility for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), the position of Assistant Professor, and admission to PhD programs. Consequently, the result—declared after the answer key—is crucial for the candidates’ future academic and career plans. For the JRF, a candidate’s performance in both Part 1 and Part 2 is taken into account. Meanwhile, candidates who qualify in the Assistant Professor and PhD admission categories become eligible for those opportunities but do not receive the JRF.
