Barcelona have escaped a €10 million payment to Manchester City after reaching an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain over Ferran Torres, according to journalist Nil Sola.

Torres is now expected to join PSG for less than €50 million after agreeing to a five-year contract.

Under a clause in the deal that took him to Spain in 2022, Barcelona would have had to pay City €10 million if Torres had been sold for €55 million or more.

They would also have owed the Cityzens €8 million if they had extended his contract.

By avoiding that extra €10 million outlay and still making a profit on the transfer, Barcelona have received a major financial lift.

The Blaugrana will be left without a natural senior striker if the Spain international completes his switch to PSG, after already allowing Robert Lewandowski to leave on a free transfer.

The Catalan side have identified Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez as a target, but a move looks unlikely at present. Barcelona had earlier submitted a €100 million bid for Alvarez, but Atletico remain firm that he is not for sale.

Barcelona have also looked at Bayern Munich's Harry Kane and Bournemouth's Eli Junior Kroupi as alternative options to the former Manchester City forward.

However, Kane is set to sign a contract extension with the Bavarians, while Kroupi is expected to be out for three to four months after suffering a foot injury.

Barcelona will start the defence of their La Liga title away at Elche on August 23.
