Manchester United are looking for an alternative to Luke Shaw at left-back, and they currently have several names under consideration.

Manchester United have had a relatively quiet summer by their usual standards, with most of their business completed early in the transfer window when they finalised a midfield revamp by bringing in Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa and Andrey Santos from Chelsea.

That has given them greater depth in central midfield, but there is still one area where they want to improve the quality available. Shaw came through last season without injury problems, but he still needs a dependable back-up at left-back, and United remain in the market.

According to TeamTalk, the Red Devils currently have four players on their shortlist.

Antoneee Robinson is the most straightforward option. He is regarded as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League and is in his prime. However, that is also the issue for United: he is 29, and the club are not especially keen on paying a major fee for a player of that age.

They “want to sign a much younger option who is either a teenager or in his very early twenties.”

The younger alternative is Lewis Hall. He is only 21 and has impressed greatly for Newcastle at left-back, but any move for him would likely require a huge transfer fee.

The two wildcard choices are Jorge Salinas of Racing Santander and Joaquin Seys of Club Brugge. Both are young, less established and significantly cheaper, but they also come with a greater element of risk.

Myles Lewis-Skelly, the Arsenal academy product, was never a realistic option. Arsenal do not want to sell, and the player himself does not want to leave.
