Tomatoes are the pride of every Indian kitchen, but during the summer season they spoil quickly or become flabby. Most of the people remain worried due to it spoiling quickly or becoming flabby. If you are also worried about throwing away spoiled tomatoes again and again, then just change the way you keep them in your kitchen. By adopting the right technique, you can keep tomatoes fresh, juicy and red for weeks. Here Know the right way to store tomatoes

1. Choosing the right temperature and place

Often people keep tomatoes in the fridge as soon as they buy them. This is the biggest mistake. Cold destroys the natural flavor of tomatoes and makes their pulp sandy. In such a situation, always keep underripe or light green tomatoes in an airy place at room temperature. Only when the tomatoes are fully ripe and are not going to be used within 1-2 days, keep them in the coldest part of the refrigerator. Take it out half an hour before use.

2. Place the stem side down
The stem end of a tomato is the place where moisture escapes most rapidly and bacteria enter. In such a situation, keep the tomatoes on a flat surface with the stalk side upside down. If you want, you can also apply a little cellotape on the stalk area. This locks in the moisture and keeps the tomatoes from shrinking for weeks.

3. Keep away and separate from each other
Tomatoes release ethylene gas, which ripens fruits and vegetables faster. Spread the tomatoes in a single layer instead of placing them one above the other. Do not keep them near bananas, apples or potatoes, otherwise they will rot very quickly.

4. How to save harvested tomatoes?
If half of the tomato is left, do not leave it in the open. Keep the cut portion in an airtight container or wrap it in cling wrap and keep it in the refrigerator. Use it within 1-2 days.

5. Freeze and enjoy for months
If you have a lot of tomatoes, wash them, dry them, put them whole in a ziplock bag and keep them in the freezer. Whenever you want to make gravy or soup, remove it from the freezer and the peel will come off easily.
