Muzaffarnagar: A madrasa was demolished by a bulldozer in Phulat village of Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district on Sunday, August 23, after it was declared illegal by the district administration, a police official said.

Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjai Kumar told reporters that during an inquiry by the revenue department, the madrasa Darul Uloom Rahimia was found illegal and was demolished under police cover.

Madrasa in-charge arrested

He said that during an inquiry into a case against the madrasa in-charge, Maulana Hifzurrehman, and his two sons, Zuber and Junaid, who were later arrested, the madrasa was found to be illegal. Subsequently, the plot it was built on was declared government land on August 17.

Consequently, the madrasa was demolished by a bulldozer, police said.

Maulana Hifzurrehman and his sons were arrested on July 6 under sections 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021.
