New Delhi: Chandigarh Police, foiling a major terrorist plot just before the Independence Day, has arrested three suspects of the banned organization 'Babbar Khalsa International' (BKI). The links of this module, nurtured by Pakistani intelligence agency ISI, are said to be linked to masters sitting abroad. Due to the timely action taken by the security agencies, a major attack in the capital Chandigarh was averted. This is the second major bust of BKI module in Chandigarh within the last one month. Earlier also around July 26, the police had arrested Satbir Singh, resident of Adamupur, Jalandhar, with an IED equipped with 1.3 kg explosive.

Caught from behind Sector-43 bus stand

Police had received information that some suspected terrorists were roaming in the city to commit some major crime. Acting on this, the three suspects were arrested behind the Interstate Bus Terminus located in Sector-43.
The arrested accused have been identified as 19-year-old Lovepreet Singh, 21-year-old Jashanpreet Singh alias Jashandeep and 19-year-old Prabhpreet Singh alias Prabh. All three are residents of Punjab.

5 kg explosive hidden in tiffin box recovered

Initial interrogation has revealed that these three accused were in direct contact with BKI handler Satnam Singh alias Satta Nowshera sitting abroad. On his instructions, they were planning to plant an IED in a crowded area of ​​Chandigarh and spread terror in the city.
During the search, the police recovered a suspected IED hidden in a tiffin box bag from the possession of the accused. It consisted of approximately 5 kilograms of gelatin sticks, a detonator, power source and remote control system. Apart from this, 1 country made pistol, 1 magazine and 5 live cartridges have also been seized.

Big terrorist plot foiled in Chandigarh

This is the second major bust of BKI module in Chandigarh within the last one month. Earlier also around July 26, the police had arrested Satbir Singh, resident of Adamupur, Jalandhar, with an IED equipped with 1.3 kg explosive. In the latest case, the police have registered a case under the Indian Justice Code (BNS), Explosive Substances Act and Arms Act. Since the incident, security has been increased at bus stands, railway stations and sensitive places in the city. Police officials have appealed to the general public not to panic and remain alert.
