Google has introduced a new Digital Wellbeing feature called Pause Point with Android 17, but older Pixel smartphones may have to wait before getting access to it.
The feature arrives with the Pixel 11 series and is designed to help users become more conscious of their screen time. Rather than simply blocking an app after a fixed limit, Pause Point gives users a brief moment to reconsider whether they really want to continue using it.
Pause Point is an extension of Android’s existing Digital Wellbeing tools, but it takes a slightly different approach to managing smartphone usage.
If you notice that a particular app is consuming too much of your time during the day, you can select it through Pause Point. The next time you try to open or use that app, the feature can trigger a 10-second countdown.
The idea is simple: those few seconds give you an opportunity to pause and decide whether you actually want to continue scrolling or whether it would be better to put the phone away.
Google appears to be positioning the feature as a gentler alternative to strict app limits, encouraging users to make more deliberate choices about their screen time.
For now, it appears that way.
Google’s current support information specifically mentions Pixel 11 devices in connection with Pause Point and does not list older Pixel smartphones.
That means owners of previous-generation models, including the Pixel 10 and earlier devices, may not immediately receive the feature even after updating to Android 17.
However, this could change in the future.
Google has previously expanded some Pixel-exclusive software features to older devices after their initial launch. Because of that, there is a possibility that Pause Point could eventually arrive on earlier Pixel models through a future Android 17 update.
At present, however, Google has not clearly confirmed whether the feature will be rolled out to older Pixel smartphones.
For now, Pixel 11 users appear to have the first access to this new Digital Wellbeing tool, while owners of older devices will have to wait for further information from Google.
Pause Point is only one of several software additions accompanying Google’s latest Pixel generation.
The Pixel 11 lineup comes with Android 17 out of the box and includes a number of features designed specifically around Google’s latest hardware and software experience.
In India, the standard Pixel 11 starts at ₹89,999with the base variant offering 256GB of storage.
Whether Pause Point eventually becomes available across the wider Pixel ecosystem remains to be seen. For now, Google’s documentation suggests that the feature is primarily associated with the new Pixel 11 generation.
