Now former India batter and a man who ruled domestic cricket, Wasim Jaffer has accused him of mistreating to star players. No, we are not talking of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, in fact the names we speak of are Suryakumar Yadav and Mohammed Shami. Suryakumar was axed as T20I skipper and left out of the team despite leading India to the T20 World Cup title while Shami was dropped from the side for no reason at all after a good show in the Champions Trophy. The latter has not played for almost 18 months while Suryakumar also has been out of the side for nearly six months. Jaffer spoke on the Test whitewashes at home received at the hands of New Zealand and South Africa and said how they would be a permanent mark on Gambhir's coaching record.

"Some individuals could have gotten better treatment, like Surya (Suryakumar Yadav), who was axed after winning the (T20) World Cup. There are other players as well, like Shami. Some things could have been better. But otherwise, I don't think in white-ball cricket any blame can be put on him," he said on his YouTube channel, as per Times Now.

"The mark of those two-whitewash series will always be on him, without a doubt. Not just on his CV, but also on the captain and other players. Coming to India and beating them was a final frontier that not many teams had achieved. It was very bad for us to suddenly lose like that. He will definitely feel that had we won those series, we would be at the top of the WTC table. There is a lot of scope for improvement in Test cricket for him. Not just for him, but for the players also," he added.

Gautam Gambhir Causing Rift?

Not just these losses, Gambhir was also accused by many of causing disharmony in the Indian camp. Fans and many experts hold him responsible for the abrupt Test retirements of Ravichandran Ashwin, Rohit and Kohli that left the cricketing world shocked. He is expected to stay as coach till the 2027 ODI World Cup at the very least. It remains to be seen what happens after that.
