India Post GDS Recruitment 2026: The Department of Posts under the Ministry of Communications, Government of India, has released the notification for the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) recruitment 2026. Under this drive, recruitment will be conducted for the posts of Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevak across various post offices nationwide.

One-time online registration will commence on August 31, 2026, while online applications will be accepted starting September 2, 2026. Interested and eligible candidates can apply by visiting the official website.

What are the eligibility criteria?
Candidates must have passed Class 10 from a recognized board.
Passing Mathematics and English in Class 10 is mandatory.
Candidates must have studied the local language prescribed for the post up to the Class 10 level.

Special rules regarding the local language apply to candidates from Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Sikkim, and Nagaland.
In these states, knowledge of the respective local tribal language or dialect—in addition to English or Hindi—may also be required.

In regions where the local language is not taught up to Class 10, proficiency in the language will be verified through a certificate issued by designated authorities.

What is the application fee?
The application fee is ₹100. Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) categories, as well as women and transgender candidates, are exempt from paying the application fee.

Salary Details
Candidates selected for the BPM post will receive a Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) ranging from ₹12,000 to ₹29,380. Meanwhile, ABPMs and Dak Sevaks will receive between ₹10,000 and ₹24,470. Work hours for these posts range from a minimum of four hours to a maximum of five hours per day.
