Manchester United’s hopes of signing Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye have been dented after a fresh report suggested Manchester City have now entered the picture.

With fewer than seven days remaining before the summer transfer window shuts, United are continuing to scan the market for late opportunities as they look to strengthen Michael Carrick’s squad.

United recently announced the arrival of Carlos Baleba from Brighton & Hove Albion. Baleba’s signing effectively completes the club’s midfield rebuild, meaning the focus has now shifted entirely to other positions, including the forward line.

Joshua Zirkzee is still a possible departure amid interest from Fiorentina. Should the Dutch forward move on, United would almost certainly have to bring in a replacement. That is where a player such as Ndiaye comes into consideration.

Ndiaye may not be the same profile of player as Zirkzee, but he is widely seen as one of the Premier League’s most dangerous attacking players. Importantly, his addition would provide greater tactical flexibility, allowing players such as Marcus Rashford, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha to operate higher up the pitch and offer more support to Sesko.

Much of the speculation surrounding Ndiaye had previously linked any move to Rashford’s future. Rashford now seems likely to stay at Old Trafford, but the possibility of Zirkzee leaving could still revive United’s interest in pursuing the Everton man.

Ndiaye scored six goals and registered three assists in 32 Premier League appearances last season.

The Senegal international had also attracted serious interest from Al-Hilal, who were ready to spend heavily to land him. However, he rejected that approach, opting instead to continue playing in Europe.

Now, talkSPORT journalists Ben Jacobs and Alex Crook have reported that Ndiaye is also on Manchester City’s radar.

Jacobs said about the United target, “BREAKING: Manchester City are showing an interest in Everton attacker Iliman Ndiaye.”

“Everton value Ndiaye at around £80m.”

“Ndiaye also a name considered by Arsenal, whose dream target remains Julian Alvarez.”

If United are serious about signing Ndiaye, they may not have much time left to act before another club moves ahead of them.
