A survey done on Aug. 27 by Mustgo, a booking platform with over 2,000 hotel partners across the country, shows that room occupancy rates for the holiday are highest from Aug. 29 to Sept. 1.
In the north, demand varies by destination.
Sa Pa and Quang Ninh, home to Ha Long Bay, report high booking rates, while in Hanoi it is around 50%.
The central and Central Highlands regions will be the busiest.
Balmy weather and travel incentives, such as free entry tickets to sightsee in Hue, caused demand to surge starting two weeks before the holidays.
Mai Ngoi Homestay said it was fully booked a month in advance.
“A week before the holiday, we had to turn down booking calls.”
Coastal destinations like Da Nang and Nha Trang have reported high occupancy rates in the luxury segments.
In Da Nang, Thai Thi Thu Thuy, sales director of Courtyard by Marriott Danang Han River, said occupancy this year is up about 60 percentage points year-on-year, with Sept. 2-4 expected to be fully booked.
Agoda data from Aug. 18 onwards ranked Da Nang as the most searched domestic destination for the holidays, followed by Nha Trang and Da Lat.
In Mang Den of Kon Tum Province which is near Da Lat, Bui Viet Ha, president of the local tourism association, said room occupancy rates are 90%, the same as with last year.
With over 170 accommodation facilities, the place expects to get around 40,000 visitors.

On the south central coast and in the south, travelers tend to wait and check the weather before deciding, especially for island trips that rely on boats such as Phu Quy, since it is the rain and storm season.
In Ho Tram in Vung Tau, Hoang Anh of the Angsana and Dhawa Ho Tram resorts said at both properties occupancy would peak from Aug. 29-30 before gradually declining.
“Most visitors come from Ho Chi Minh City and nearby provinces, and they tend to book at the last minute.”
In Phu Quy, room occupancy averages 70%.
In Quy Nhon, the holiday occupancy rates are 50% for 4- and 5-star properties, around 60% for 3-star hotels and in excess of 40% for villas.
Phu Quoc is the top southern destination thanks to the high frequency of flights and competitive airfares.
According to Pham Anh Vu, deputy general director of Du Lich Viet, one of Vietnam’s leading tour operators, Phu Quoc is among his agency’s most booked destinations for the holidays.
“Travelers this year have favored 4- and 5-star accommodation.”
