Fenerbahce have identified Marcus Rashford as a late transfer target after sealing qualification for the Champions League.

According to The Times, the Turkish club are aiming to bring in a ‘star player’ before the transfer deadline.

Rashford, however, is expected to turn down any approach from Turkey in the final phase of the window and is preparing to remain with his boyhood club, Manchester United, for the entire season.

The forward made his first competitive outing for United since December 2024 when he came on for the second half against Hull City last Saturday.

Rashford will now be hoping that cameo was enough to put him in contention to start for the Reds against Ipswich Town on Sunday, when United will play in front of the Old Trafford crowd for the first time this season.

The 28-year-old is under contract at United until June 2028, and his £325,000-a-week deal makes him one of the highest-paid players in the squad.

Even so, INEOS are likely to revisit the possibility of selling the academy graduate next year in a bid to remove his wages from the books and avoid the risk of losing him for nothing two years later.

Any transfer fee received for Rashford would be recorded as pure profit, which explains why the club were so eager to move him on during this transfer window.

But after Barcelona allowed their £26 million option to buy him to lapse, and with no interested club willing to trigger his £40m release clause, United’s hierarchy came to accept that he would be staying.

From Michael Carrick’s point of view, the hope will simply be that the England international can reproduce the level he showed during his loan spell with Barcelona last season.
