Manchester United seem to be urgently searching for a new left-back in the closing days of the summer transfer window.

United have been connected with several left-backs in recent weeks, with Michael Carrick understood to be keen on adding strong competition for Luke Shaw after moving Patrick Dorgu into a more advanced role.

The Red Devils’ ideal target is Lewis Hall, but they have also been credited with interest in Alejandro Balde, Jorge Salinas and RB Leipzig’s David Raum.

Manchester United have not yet made any major breakthrough in their efforts to reinforce that position, with different obstacles affecting each pursuit.

Newcastle United are not willing to consider bids for Hall. At the same time, INEOS are reluctant to commit a large fee for players such as Balde and Raum. Salinas remains an attractive option, but Atletico Madrid are pressing to secure his signing.

Against that backdrop, one journalist has now introduced an unexpected name for United to think about before the 1 September deadline.

According to Dylan McBennett of Attacking Football, French left-back Bradley Locko “would be open to joining” United before the transfer window shuts.

The 24-year-old is believed to be one of “numerous left-backs with desire to join United this summer.”

Previously regarded as a promising full-back, Locko has not advanced much in the last few years and has gone through a disappointing spell with Ligue 1 side Brest. He made 21 league appearances last season and registered two assists overall.

Locko has struggled to truly distinguish himself in France lately. For that reason, he may be ready to make the switch to Old Trafford, although it is still unclear whether Manchester United’s decision-makers have any concrete interest in him.

Even so, a surprise arrival in the next few days cannot be completely dismissed.

Speaking recently, Fabrizio Romano “guaranteed” that United are still trying to find a solution at left-back.

The Italian journalist indicated that United could look at a short-term option, similar to the move they made in 2023 when they signed Sergio Reguilon.

“As a comparison, remember when United signed Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham, on loan… something similar. Obviously I’m not saying Reguilon, but that kind of player, experienced left-back who can provide competition,” Romano said.
