Aston Villa have reached an agreement in principle to sign highly rated forward Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain in a transfer worth €55 million. The Premier League club have overcome strong competition to secure the gifted winger, in another major show of intent in the market as Unai Emery continues to reshape his attacking options.

Aston Villa agree fee with PSG

The club have moved successfully to complete the transfer for Mbaye after meeting the French champions' €55m valuation. According to The Athletic, the deal is now being finalised, with the required paperwork already under way.

The close relationship between Aston Villa chairman Nassef Sawiris and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is understood to have played a key role in getting the agreement over the line.

Mbaye had drawn serious interest from several leading clubs this summer, with Liverpool particularly keen, but Aston Villa acted decisively to win the race for his signature. He is seen as a major coup for the club and a player who fits neatly into the tactical vision laid out by manager Emery.

Mbaye brings senior experience despite young age

The teenager first joined PSG from FC Versailles 78 in the summer of 2018 and rapidly rose through the club's academy system. He made his senior debut for the French side in August 2024 when he was only 16 years old.

Since then, Mbaye has made 42 first-team appearances, registering four goals and four assists. In the last season alone, he scored three times and supplied two assists in 31 matches across all competitions. During his spell in Paris, Mbaye also became the youngest player ever to start a competitive match for PSG. He started 10 Ligue 1 matches and one UEFA Champions League game, underlining his readiness for top-level European football.

International success and summer squad overhaul

On the international stage, Mbaye changed allegiance from France youth teams to represent Senegal. Since making his debut for the African nation in November 2025, the winger has won 15 caps. He played an important role in Senegal's 2025 Africa Cup of Nations triumph, featuring in six matches, and started three games at the 2026 World Cup, scoring against France on June 16.

At club level, Aston Villa have been extremely busy in this transfer window, already making eight signings. Nicolas Jackson is expected to become their ninth arrival. The club have also overseen major exits, with Morgan Rogers joining Chelsea for £117m and Ollie Watkins moving to Al Hilal.

What next for Aston Villa and Mbaye?

Aston Villa will now turn their attention to completing the medical and the remaining formal paperwork before officially announcing Mbaye. Once that is done, he is expected to slot straight into the first-team squad and offer Emery a natural option on the right side. With Garnacho arriving on loan and Jackson also joining, the club have completely overhauled their attacking line before a demanding Premier League and European campaign.
