The visitors should have had another as Joe Gomez got on the end of a dangerous cross, only to send his effort just past Emiliano Martínez's right-hand post.
Attention then turned to the day's final match at Old Trafford, where the teams had just been announced.

There was only one goal in it at Stamford Bridge after Pascal Groß grabbed another for Brighton, his effort taking a slight deflection off João Pedro.
There seemed to be a few teething problems in West London.

Leeds came close to an equaliser at Elland Road as James Justin unleashed a piledriver, but Caoimhín Kelleher matched it with an equally impressive save.

There was finally a breakthrough at the Stadium of Light, where Wilson Isidor fired the home side into the lead.

Cole Palmer restored Chelsea's two-goal advantage with a superb strike, prompting Xabi Alonso to sprint down the touchline in celebration.

Daniel Farke's side found their leveller at Elland Road through Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who was in the right place to turn in Felix Nmecha's cutback across goal.

What a contest this became. Right at the death, Brighton struck again as Groß completed his brace with a header.
Alonso-ball certainly lived up to the early hype.

The hosts dominated possession. Somehow they did not take the lead when Rashford's cross found Bryan Mbeumo, whose effort crashed against the crossbar before being cleared for a corner.
Ipswich eventually dealt with it.

United's dominance paid off as Harry Maguire had a shot deflected into the net. There were appeals for handball in the build-up, so a VAR check looked certain.
