Major exam reforms are being planned for NEET UG 2027. The Ministry of Education is engaged in ongoing discussions regarding changes to the examination system. A high-powered task force constituted for this purpose has received several suggestions; key among them is the proposal to conduct NEET more than once a year and to consider the candidate's best score for admission. Additionally, consideration is being given to assigning some weightage to Class 12 board exam marks for medical admissions. Experts believe that providing multiple opportunities to take the exam would reduce student stress and ensure that their careers do not hinge on a single day's performance.

**Proposal to conduct the exam four times**
Educationist and BJP Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal has suggested giving NEET candidates the opportunity to take the exam four times over a period of one to one-and-a-half years. He proposes that the student's best score from these attempts could be considered for admission.

He noted that while students begin preparing for NEET as early as Class 10 or even before, their entire future comes to depend on a single three-hour exam. This increases mental pressure on students. Providing more opportunities could significantly alleviate this issue. He has stated that he intends to present this suggestion to the high-level committee.

**Exam to be conducted in CBT mode**
Plans are also underway to change the mode of the NEET UG 2027 examination. A Computer-Based Test (CBT) format could replace the current pen-and-paper exam. Consideration is also being given to whether NEET should be conducted multiple times a year, similar to JEE.

**Board marks may be given weightage**
Career counselor Alok Bansal has suggested that Class 12 board marks should also be given some weightage alongside NEET scores. He points out that many students neglect their school studies due to their focus on entrance exam preparation. Giving importance to board exams could help increase the focus on school education.

A previous committee had also recommended conducting the entrance exam more than once a year. This could help reduce student stress and dependency on coaching centers. Additionally, the need to strengthen regulations for monitoring advertisements and success claims made by coaching institutes has been highlighted.
