Brunei recorded BND158 million (US$124 million) in tourism receiptsin the first six months this year, up 13% year-on-year, as visitor numbers increased.
This demonstrates that tourism growth is making a direct contribution to the national economy, Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies and Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Datuk Dr Abdul Manaf Metussin said at a recent government meeting.
He said Brunei’s strategy goes beyond increasing visitor numbers, and instead focusing on high-value tourism that encourages longer stays, higher spending and greater use of local products and services, helping keep tourism revenue within the country, Borneo Bulletin reported.

Brunei, known for its vast oil and gas wealth, absolute monarchy led by a wealthy Sultan, and pristine rainforests, is Southeast Asia’s second richest country by GDP per capita after Singapore.
It recorded nearly 400,000 visitor arrivals in the first six months of 2026, up 7.8% from the same period last year.
The country expects to attract around 1 million tourists and generate 630 million Brunei dollars ($493.11 million) in tourism revenue during Visit Brunei Year 2027.
Visit Brunei Year 2027 is a year-long celebration held in conjunction with the Diamond Jubilee of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, marking the 60th anniversary of His Majesty’s accession to the throne, according to Brunei Tourism’s website.
