Premier League’s 8 richest shirt sponsorship deals as Liverpool confirm massive Turkish Airlines agreement

Liverpool have confirmed that Turkish Airlines will become their new front-of-shirt sponsor, in a move that makes the agreement one of the most lucrative sponsorship deals in Premier League history.

From next year, Liverpool will carry the airline’s branding in a contract worth £60m per season, but where does that place the deal among the biggest shirt sponsorship fees in the Premier League?

Here is the ranking of the eight biggest shirt sponsorship deals in England’s top flight.

Things may not always go to plan for Tottenham Hotspur on the pitch, but away from it they remain one of the Premier League’s most commercially efficient clubs.

Alongside a stadium that brings in enormous revenue, Spurs also bank £40m a year from long-standing shirt sponsor AIA.

The north London side have been backed by the insurance company since 2013, but from next year that arrangement will switch to the club’s training wear, which means Spurs could yet climb higher on this list.

That is, provided they are still in the Premier League.

Pinning down the exact value of Arsenal’s shirt sponsorship is not straightforward because, like Manchester City, they have the same sponsor for both the shirt and the stadium.

Reports indicate that Emirates, Arsenal’s sponsor since 2006, pays £50m a year, with that figure also covering the naming rights for the stadium.

It may have looked dreadful and far too large on the shirt, but Manchester United’s executives were hardly concerned once the Chevrolet money started arriving.

The American car manufacturer paid $70m (£50m) to become United’s front-of-shirt sponsor, replacing Aon in 2014.

It was a huge agreement too, lasting seven years before the two parties eventually went their separate ways in 2021 after COVID.

Liverpool’s new arrangement will bring to a close one of the longest sponsorship partnerships in Premier League history, with Standard Chartered having appeared on the front of the club’s kit for 17 years.

That agreement is worth about £50m a year, meaning Liverpool will earn an extra £10m from next season.

Chelsea’s front-of-shirt sponsor has been a notable talking point recently, largely because for a period they did not have one.

Now, for one year only, Chelsea have filled the empty space on the front of their shirt with USDC by Circle, which is said to be a regulated digital dollar stablecoin.

Do we know exactly what that means? No, of course not, but we do know it has reportedly brought Chelsea £50m for this year.

To be fair, trying to find a definitive figure involving Manchester City and finances is not always easy.

Since 2009, City have been sponsored by Etihad Airways, a UAE airline owned by the Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund.

So City are, in effect, sponsoring themselves, although very clear legal distinctions have been put in place so they can satisfy various financial regulations in both the Premier League and European football.

A leak in 2019 showed that an email stated that of the £67.5m sponsorship in 2015-16, only £8m came from Etihad, while £59.5m came from Sheikh Mansour’s own holding company.

In 2023, the BBC reported that the deal was close to £70m, but crucially that agreement extends well beyond the shirt, with the stadium also carrying the company’s name.

United may not have lifted the league title in more than a decade, but they are still capable of attracting huge money when it comes to shirt sponsorships.

After receiving £50m a year from Chevrolet, they bettered that with a reported £60m annually through Snapdragon.

The American computer chip producer became United’s sponsor in 2023 on an initial three-year deal, but an extension clause was activated in 2024, taking the partnership through to June 2029.

Liverpool have announced a five-year contract with the airline, increasing their income by £10m compared to their previous sponsor.

It is a sponsorship that matches the Premier League record for the most lucrative and underlines just how commercially powerful both Liverpool and United remain, even when league titles are not coming their way.

The sponsorship will begin at the start of the 2027-28 season and will make Turkish Airlines the fourth airline sponsor in the Premier League.
